It all starts off on the night of a full moon and the Slayerettes are keeping close tabs on our favorite werewolf/band member, Oz. Xander takes on the roll of being lookout for the evening (Willow had loads of studying to get to - I'm sure we all know what that feels like) and naturally he nods off. In the morning there are reports out on a brutal killing in the woods and to make things even more complicated, the window to the room where Oz was caged in has mysteriously opened (leading the gang to believe that Oz is on a killing spree).

Now for the good stuff. Despite the fact that Buffy and Scott have been on a few dates (there has been a slight time lapse between this episode and the last one) Buffy still deals with her haunting memories of Angel. She's started seeing the school therapist who turns out to be pretty darn cool (that is until he's sliced and diced by our mystery villain) - *ahem* Sorry, I skipped ahead there. Oopsie daisy, my bad.

Warning to all Buffy and Angel fans: Buffy and Scott share a brief smooch in this ep (just a simple kiss - I know, it bites, but I'm trying to rationalize here).

Okay, let's move on past that little issue shall we? This is where things get juicy. While Buffy is hunting in the woods she is steam rolled by a frantic half naked mad man racing through the night. After a brief battle, Buffy overpowers the hysterical stranger and gets a closer look: time to be shocked - it's Angel!! Now saying that Angel is a little, ummm, 'disturbed' is an understatement. We're talking snarling, growling, Cujo-wannabe action going on here (it's actually quite impressive). Naturally Buffy is taken aback so she drags Angel to the old mansion (where the Acathla swallowed Angel into Hell; surely you don't forget!) and chains him up. After several attempts to approach Angel she decides to back off and go to the library for research. After a long night of searching for information, Buffy asks Giles, hypothetically, what Angel would be like if he ever did escape Hell. Giles confesses that it would take a person of incredible character and will to leave the confines of Hades but that if Angel did he would most likely be a tortured monster. (Note: Giles also made the statement that he could also be a monster capable of responding to love). That night Angel breaks through his chains and runs free from the mansion (unbeknownst to Buffy, of course).

Back on campus, after Buffy's therapist is disposed of (in the daylight) by Sunnydale's newest threat, the Scooby gang can rest easy that Oz is not the culprit *phew* However there are two mysterious characters hanging out with Scott and Buffy: Debbie and Pete. We soon discover that Pete is taking some sort of Dr.Jekyll and Mr.Hyde potion in hopes of becoming a better man for Debbie. Unfortunately this concoction turns Pete into an overly impulsive (and we're talking OVERLY here) abusive boyfriend (which includes morphing into some yukkee faced monster).

Personally I found this plot to be incredibely slow and dragged out but nonetheless, Buffy and Co figure things out and move into action. Ohhhh, here's the part I love: Buffy is having this big ole' showdown with Pete (who recently finished off his bruised and battered girlfriend) when all of a sudden Angel barges in and attacks him. With little effort Angel uses his chains to strangle Pete and break his neck (Don't I paint a pretty picture?). The bewildered Buffy looks up into Angel's vampire features as tears flood her eyes. Angel morphs back into his human form and looks at her closely - moving towards her he whispers, "Buffy?" then drops to his knees and wraps his arms around her legs, sobbing into her. Buffy can only stand there, shocked and baffled, with tears streaming down her face. *sigh* (I know, I know, she could have at least comforted him but this is a pretty confusing situation. Don't you just have to sympathize with the poor girl?)

The episode ends with a voice over of Buffy reciting poetry (very confusing prose if you ask me). We see Buffy leaning against a wall, watching her Angel in the mansion as he lies helplessly on the ground.

(I'm in agreement here - amazing stuff with regards to B & A, but the rest of it just wasn't up to scratch...maybe Joss took too long a break!! =) - Robyn)
